Review: Garnier Olia Permanent Bleach

Disclaimer: I'm writing this from mobile and trying out this feature so it could be kind of weird. We’ll see how it goes.

Alright so today, I'm trying and reviewing a new bleach. New to me, anyways. I usually use Feria, but it was sold out, and has also been giving me a weird allergic reaction ever since my son was born.

Second disclaimer: I have some hairdresser training. I don't have my license or anything because I didn't overly enjoy it, and, as my teacher so lovingly put it:

Darling, you're one of the best students I've ever had… on paper

So I have enough knowledge that I do my own hair from time to time, but I very rarely will touch anyone else's. Also yes, I know better than to use box dyes but….

Moving on.

Right out of the box, the packaging is nice. Everything is clearly labelled, the applicator tip actually screws off instead of needing to be cut, and the bleaching powder is in a tube. A++ so far.

After the quality of everything else, I'm a little disappointed in the gloves. They make a loud crinkling noise, were hard to get on, and then felt like they were going to burst. I don't have tiny hands, but they're not massive either!

Mixing went well. I wound up with no powder outside the container, which is amazing! (Mostly because I'm renting, but then I also had no mess to clean) The developer cream was nearly as smooth, and everything mixed well with shaking. The nozzle didn't plug either!

The bleach got right to work, and I could see a dramatic different before I even finished applying it. Cool for sure, but I'm hoping that it doesn't lighten unevenly. The gloves held up better than I expected, and they softened as I used them.

This is where I'd put an in progress picture of my hair, but I'm still having an allergic reaction and my face is blotchy :)))

So while I'm waiting for the bleach to do its thing, I looked at the conditioner. I'm disappointed in it; it's not anti-brass and won't tone the finished product. This is fine for me because I have my own toning conditioner that I made, but it's too bad for anyone who may not have bleached their hair before.

No purple hues :(

No purple hues :(

This is a toner that I mixed myself. It's conditioner and purple dye. I went a bit heavy with the purple admittedly, but it works.

I couldn't let it sit as long as I wanted to because allergic reaction kicked into high gear and my hands started burning. So, out it came. It seemed to wash out well, and my hair felt dry (as expected) but it doesn't seem to have been too harsh.

Lmao my poor skin. What a sick joke for someone who loves to colour their hair funky colours. “Sorry, you're allergic to bleach now LOL”

End result after toning once. I'll have to tone at least once more, and my hair will look lighter/a lot more even once it's dry.

EDIT: okay so my hair lightened SO well, I'm really, really impressed! My face has started to calm down now so there is a picture below. The purple is from toning, and I let it go intentially because I'm doing a purple/pink combo later.

Overall score: 8/10, would buy again.

-1 for the gloves, and -1 for no toning conditioner.
